after care

From the moment you leave us you need to take gentle care of your new designer brows. You will notice they will appear “wet” over the next couple of hours, this is your lymph fluid and you need to pat it dry with a tissue every half an hr to avoid excessive build up. This will also help to lower the chance of scabs forming.

At Tinted Love we follow a ‘Wet Healing’ process as outlined below. For the next week please wash your eyebrows with warm soapy water morning and night and pat them dry with a cotton pad, you will then gently apply a small amount (half a pea size) of aftercare balm to each brow. Making sure your aftercare balm does not build up on your brows or appear wet throughout the healing process, they still need to breathe!!

Your brows will appear thicker and darker during the first week of healing. This is normal. The colour will start to fade and may even disappear or “ghost” as we refer to it in some cases. Rest assured the colour will return. You will be required to come back for a follow up appointment 4-6 weeks later to ensure the pigment bonds evenly to your skin and assists in longevity of your tattoo.

Your new brows are then good for anywhere between 12 months and three years depending on your skin type.

WET HEALING VS. DRY HEALING

‘Wet Healing’ is a process that is recommended whereby you wash your brows morning and night with warm soapy water, pat dry with a cotton pad and apply a thin layer of your aftercare balm supplied by your technician. This process adds hydration and assists in regenerating new cells.

As with any wound it requires oxygen to heal so continuing to apply your aftercare on your fresh wound without washing it can cause bacteria build up which in turn may cause an infection.

Skin needs time to breath and heal hence the recommendation to clean the wound as you would with a normal body tattoo.

‘Dry Healing’ requests no water on or near your brows during healing, this is due to fear that water may cause damage to pigment or change the colour of your tattoo. If this was the case then a Tattoo Artist would advise you not to wash or clean your new body tattoo and this is not what they recommend.

why DOES tinted love recommend ‘wet healing’?

Tinted Love has tried and tested BOTH methods and there was NO significant noticeable difference in the tattoo at the 6 week follow up with either healing process, therefore we recommend the wet healing after care for hygiene and cleanliness purposes.

More about the healing process

WHAT TO AVOID during the healing process

Days 1-7

  • Avoid heavy/sweaty exercise, hot yoga, hot baths, swimming and hot sex (okay, maybe not the hot sex part, but just be careful, you promise?!).

Days 1-14

  • DO NOT pick your scabs - (ewwww!) we know they look gross, but picking your scabs off can potentially pull pigment out. We know if you're a picker or not!

  • NO makeup, serums, exfoliator, perfumed products, moisturizer or SPF on or around the area, keep it clean!

Days 1-30

  • NO tinting, dying, waxing or lami’s - keep em clean sister.

  • NO strong/rejuvenating skin ingredients such as retin A, glycolic acid, masks, peels or any invasive skin treatments i.e. facial laser, skin needling until completely healed.

Once your brows are completely healed, please ensure you use a quality SPF when you’re out in the sun, to avoid fading/skin damage.
